Welcome to DemonMinds DemonMinds Horror Writing and Artwork

Horror Submission Guidelines for DemonMinds

December 10, 2009

Dear Horror Contributor,

NEWS: J. P. Moore is dead....at least that is what the DemonMaster is reporting. In celebration, the DemonMaster has offered the following to you the contributor:

1. Rates of reimbursement will increase.

2. There will be expanded special features including an anticipated interview with an academic specializing in the study of an iconic early horror author.

The new rates are as follows--and non-negotiable:

Short Story: $25 per story regardless of word count

Poetry: $5 per poem

Horror Review/Interview: $10

Artwork: $50 for the cover. $10 for interior artwork--per page.

What we are looking for in the 2010 DemonMinds Publication:

TOPIC: Anything in the horror genre. We are looking for two stories which are twists on classic monsters, such as vampires, man made monsters, werewolves, etc.

Max word count: 10,000, but we ordinarily only publish short stories that are under 6000 words.

New terms: If we choose to publish your material we have three acceptance levels:

1. Accepted--no revisions necessary

2. Conditionally accepted--require further revisions or editing

3. Not appropriate for the current publication---this would ordinarily mean rejected, but we don't reject stories--even really bad ones. They just aren't appropriate for our current publication.

If accepted, we require a contract which basically allows us to publish your story, edit it, promote in, and publish it in subsequent editions--we reserve all rights; however, as author/artist/poet, you have reprint rights as of March 2011. After that time you can resell it with a notice (first published in DemonMinds).

Each contributor gets one author/artist/poet copy of DemonMinds mailed to their home address. If you live someplace outside the U.S., this may incur postage on your part--depending on the area of the world you live in.

WE WILL MAKE OUR DETERMINATION OF WHO TO PUBLISH IN JULY 2010. PLEASE INCLUDE YOUR CONTACT INFORMATION WITH YOUR SUBMISSION: First and Last Name, Pen Name if applicable, and mailing address.

1. All tales/poems must be in either Microsoft Word format: .doc, or saved as Rich Text Format: .rtf

2. All artwork must be in the form of a .jpg file under five megs in size.

3. If you submit it, you are giving DemonMinds and its agents permission to review your work.

4. All tales, poems and artwork accepted for publication in our softcover issue must be accompanied by a letter of agreement--sent to your current e-mail address when accepted for publication. If the letter of agreement isn't returned by the deadline, your work will NOT be published in our softcover issue.

4C: Compensation is listed above--$25 per short horror story, $5 per poem, $50 for cover artwork, $10 for interior artwork. One contributor copy per accepted submission to U.S. addresses. Other submissions may require postage for free copy.

5. Work submitted must be unpublished, or it must be noted when and where it was published in your submission letter.

6. Submission of your manuscript indicates acceptance that YOU and YOU alone are responsible for any legal ramifications of your work. You agree to indemnify DemonMinds and its agents against any, and all, legal actions resulting from its publication. Please don't plagiarize!!

7. Don't assume that e-mail communication works all of the time. With the advent of spam and spam filters, e-mail is lost on occasion. Thus, if you haven't heard back from us, send the e-mail again, or try another account.

8. FORMATTING: Please be careful about your submissions, read, proof read, have someone else read it. We transfer your tales from Word (any version of word) to PDF for publication. Please help us by not including any formatting beyond bold, italic, and paragraph breaks.

9. Last but not least, don't lose your passion for writing with all of these stupid rules.

Please send submissions to: submissions@demonminds.com

If you are unable to send e-mail to the above, we will accept stories burned on CD or DVD. We will not retype your story so don't send a print copy unless it is accompanied by an electronic copy (we do not return submissions so don't send the original) to the following address:
